BSA taking part in Division 1 next year

RBC Capital Markets Barbados Soccer Academy (BSA) will be participating in the Barbados Football Association Division 1 competition next year.

The BSA easily defeated Pinelands four goals to two in the playoff for Division 1 promotion. Ocean Sobers-Henry, who will be heading for a full soccer scholarship to a university in Tennessee, scored a hat-trick in the match.

Jabez Bovell, Chief Executive Officer of the BSA, said the Division 2 Reserve team also placed second in the Division 2 Reserve competition. He further said that the higher level of competition next year will better prepare the players for scholarship opportunities in the USA. The average age of the kids who are still at secondary schools is 17 years old, with the oldest player being 19. With such a fantastic season this year, the BSA has switched its attention to the Snag Beer Championship Cup, where the BSA team will face off in a clash with Waterford Compton United.

This encounter will be a hotly contested match, since both organisations share the same practice field at the Combermere School. With the Compton team facing relegation from the Premier division, Bovell said that BSA are expecting to give their opponents a devastating knockout punch on Saturday, June 10 at 4 p.m., at the BFA Astro Turf. If victorious, the BSA will advance to the 16-team stage of the competition.

Last year, the BSA defeated the Empire Premier League team at the Passage Road facilities. Hopefully, should the team reach the Snag Beer Championship Cup quarter-final stage, an alarm will be sound to bring home some of the BSA scholarship winners that are based in the USA. The players are currently playing NCAA Division 1 College soccer. The BSA are preparing to showcase their players in December in the CASA, IMG, and Disney showcases in Florida, USA.
