Body Shapers Fitness and Fashion a show with a difference

A fitness show with a difference.

That was how the well-attended Body Shapers Internal Fitness and Fashion 2016 competition which was held at the Sugar Cane Mall recently dazzled the crowd.

Owner and operator of the Body Shapers Personal Studios, Kirk Bovell combined fashion with fitness as he sought to build the confidence of his members. The contestants were able to express themselves in formal wear, casual wear and then swim wear.

Bovell told that The Barbados Advocate that he has been going to some of the other fitness shows that currently existed and after a while there is only so many times one wants to hear quarter turn to the right quarter turn to the left.

“I understand that that is the standard for fitness shows but I wanted an avenue where my existing clientele, who were not as confident ... to go out on stage in swim wear, (and) would have the opportunity to compete in a competition that wasn’t so structured initially.”

As a result he hoped that it would then build “that stage confidence and presence to probably transition into one of the other main stream competitions.”

On the stage the competitors looked to be having fun, expressing themselves in ways which one would not see at the formal fitness shows.

Some came with boxing wraps, hats, floatation devices, shades and many other props that made for an entertaining package.

In the end it was Bisa Simmons who was crowned the overall winner in the female category. Simmons came with an impressive stage presence which earned her victory in her female short class. She had an impressive combined total of 314 points, topping all three categories and then went up against tall class winner Shikira White for the overall.

In the short class Trudianne Bovell was second and Krystal Johnson was third.

Unlike Simmons, White did not win all three of the categories in her Tall Class Divisions but had to fight back initially after narrowly placing second in the formal wear section.

Second in the Tall class went to Andrea Cumberbatch who was a mere five points behind and the winner of the formal section. Third was Richa Daniel, and fourth was Trecia Mondeor.

In the overall battle it was Simmons that reigned supreme.

There was hardly any difference in the men’s section between the close matched contestants. The Short Class surely caused many headaches for the judges as one point separated the winner and second place and then second place and third place.

The competition was not only about looks but also stage presence and confidence and when the smoke had cleared it was Simeon Krystoff who emerged as the winner with 266 points. Krystoff was consistent throughout the three sections and though he did not win any of them individually, he showed high quality and placed in the top each time. This earned him the a hard fought victory in the end.

Second in the Short Class was Edwin Green who had won the formal section and the casual section but fell behind in the swim wear and gave up 10 points to Krystoff to lose by one point.

Gregory Murrell was third with 264 points, while the winner of the swimwear Kenroy Waterman was fourth. Fifth place went to Andres Barker.

In the tall class it was an easier task for the judges who awarded Dale Corbin with the victory over Andre Boyce. Third was Justin Henry, fourth Akel Thompson and fifth Rodney Bradshaw.

The overall title went to Krystoff. (CG)
