Blackbirds take third in Banks Beer Cup

As the 2016 Domestic Season moves along smoothly, all that is left now is for a new champion to be crowned in the 2016 Banks Beer Champions Cup.

With the final set for next week between Weymouth Wales and Rendezvous, the fight for third came to an end this past Thursday after the current premier league leaders, University of the West Indies Blackbirds beat out Mackeson Brittons Hill.

Playing at the Wildey Astro Turf, UWI put two past Brittons Hill to secure the win against a single shot. The Blackbirds were off the mark early in the exchange with Nathan Worrell netting in the third minute. After a somewhat nasty challenge from the Brittons Hill keeper in the 20th minute on Dario Harewood, the Blackbirds were gifted a penalty which Harewood made no mistakes with.

The remainder of the first half and most of the second passed by uneventfully. However, UWI repaid Brittons Hill in kind to give up a penalty in the 82nd minute. Rommel Bynoe stepped up to the spot and comfortably converted to give his team a consolation. The rest of the minutes dropped off the clock with UWI stoutly defending their lead. (MP)
