Belfield and Pinelands advance in BABA KOs

Belfield and Orange 3 Pinelands advanced to the next round of the Barbados Amateur Basketball Association First Division Knockouts.

Belfield defeated the Kolij Lions 53-44, where they led for the majority of the matchup. Omar Bowen took the fight to the Lions as he scored easily in each quarter of the game. Bowen ended the game with 19 points including an 8 point 4th quarter.

Kolij put up a fight but could not find the extra offense needed to stick with Belfield. After a 13 all first quarter, Belfield separated themselves from Kolij with a 17-9 second quarter and never looked back. Bowen was supported by sharp shooter Basil Weatherhead who finished with 10 points and Mario Springer who contributed 7 in a winning cause.

Though Kolij held Belfield to less points in the second half and were able to score as well, a 22-23 second half by Kolij kept the score close but failed to close the gap on the Blackrock team. Ricky Wilshire top scored with 9 for Kolij while Christian Holder and Barry Batson added 7 and 5 respectively.

Playing in the YMCA, Pinelands kept Pharmaceuticals Plus Mayhill in check and took the win 62-57. The first quarter was a ding dong battle between the two teams with Mayhill outscoring the Pine by 1 point (13-12). It was a poor second quarter where Mayhill were unable to score double digits (9) and the Pine continued to score the basketball. Pinelands opened up a 9 points lead at the half which would be insurmountable by Mayhill even though they outscored the Pine in both the latter quarters of the game.

There was a team effort from Pinelands and Rasheed Maynard who is usually a sharp shooter from behind the arc but this toss settled from jumpers and free throw line attempts. Maynard top scored for the Pine with 15 points, Chris Holder had 11, Nicholas Wiltshire and Kiesierian Adams scored 8 and 6 points apiece. Mayhill also put forward a team effort on the night with Whitneal George having the game high score of 16 points, Chloe Hurley had 13, Dave John scored 12 and Gregg Scantlebury 10. (AS)
