Barbados recognises contribution of athletes

The National Sports Council and the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport honoured some of the athletes of Barbados for their performances across various sporting disciplines over the last few months. The reception was held on the first floor of the 3Ws Stand at Kensington Oval and was in honour of the 2016 Carifta Athletes, Under-16 Netball Team and the Successful West Indies Cricket Teams.

Present at the reception were Minister of Sport Stephen Lashley, IOC member and founder of the Carifta Games Sir Austin Sealy and Interim CEO of the NSC Jerry Blenman.

The Minister delivered the feature address where he highlight the many achievements of the various teams and stated that “Our future remains in very sound hands and that is good as we have to build on what our achievements are today in order to continue to deliver excellence.”

As Barbados gets set to celebrate 50 years of independence, Lashley added that our athletes across the many disciplines continue to rise to the challenge of regional and international competition.
