Barbados Ninja Throwdown coming

A new challenge is in town and it is the inaugural Barbados Ninja Throwdown which is slated for November 12th at the home of the event in Featherbed Lane.

Recently at a media open day, owner and founder, Delano Hinds explained his vision for the event which will be the first of its kind in Barbados.

Hinds who is a former competitor of American Ninja Warrior saw that there was a need to continue to challenge the fitness enthusiast as well as others and designed the course which has seven obstacles.

The competition will be only one day but the competitors will get to practice before the event which will be a timed event with the winner walking away with $1 000 in cash.

Despite its short length the course is challenging and the obstacles have been named after places and things in Barbados.

Hinds who gave a display of how each section should go and did so with relative ease, being only slightly winded by the end, said that the start will see the competitors have to traverse the Cattlewash Stepping Stones, followed by the Green Monkey bars, then the Garrison Spider Wall, then the BDF Vertical Batons, onto the Flying Fish ladder, then a tyre flip and then Mount Hillaby or the warp wall which is 14 feet.

Hinds said, “Yes there is some skill  involved but it is functional and functional training and it is a challenge seeing something and overcoming it.”

He doesn’t believe it is too difficult with competitors trying out the course along with some members of the media.

At present it is a one stage course and Hinds said he plans to refine it to where there is a qualifying course and then and final course as he hopes to keep improving the quality and standard of the facility and event.

There are only a few more places left in the competition which caters for individuals and teams and starts on November 12 at 4 p.m.. It is one day only and lights will be set up and there will be food and drink on sale.

There is a fee for competing  individuals and  teams. Teams should be made up of three people and one must be female and each individual will do two obstacles.

There is also a fee for spectators. (CG)
