BABA First Division KOs underway today

The first round of the Knockouts for the Barbados Amateur Basketball Association First Division start today with eight teams playing tonight at the YMCA and the Gully Hill Courts.

The Station Hill Cavaliers who have no wins for the season will face off against Orange 3 Pinelands in the first game of the evening at 6.30 p.m. at Gully Hill with newly in form Roberts Royals stepping up against the Urban Vybz St. John’s Sonics at 8 p.m. At the YMCA, the Checker Hall Braves will take on the formidable Pan American International Insurance Warrens Sports Club first at 630 p.m. and then at 8, the veteran team of the Garrison Chargers will play against the Spartans. All games during the week will be played at 6.30 and 8 p.m. and all teams who have previously employed two teams spread across both zones have now joined them together.

The next eight teams to play received byes to the second round of games and will be playing tomorrow, August 10th at the Garrison and Clapham courts. The first game will see Kolij Lions come up against Belfield while the two of the top teams of the Northern Zone will match up in the second match. Cougars and the Hawks will do battle on the home court of the Hawks and will definitely be a game to watch. In the league game the Hawks dispatched Cougars with relative ease, defeating them by 25 points. Cougars who are a recently demoted Premier League side, will be looking to put on a better showing and give the Hawks a real challenge.

At the other venue, Clapham, the first game will be between Newbury and the Barbados Lumber Company Lakers Sports Club. Lakers are another top team in the North Zone and it will be a hard task for Newbury to steal a victory against them. Clapham will try to do their fans proud at home when they take on ACS United in the second match. United are yet to claim a victory this season but played well against Clapham in the first game of the league this season but Ryan Leacock came alive in the second half to give Clapham the win.

Pharmaceutical Mayhill, Police Sports Club, Dover Chargers, Challengers Sports Club, the Barbados Hilton Resort Warriors and Senators received a bye to the third round and will be playing games next week against the advancing winners from this week’s matches. (AS)
