Republic Bank Opens

REPUBLIC Bank’s opening of the new Warrens branch in its permanent location at One Barbados Place is a true expression of confidence in the future of the country.

This is according to Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley who officially opened the branch on Thursday evening, where she also stressed on the word partnership, noting that the bank is a partnership between the bank, and a private investor.

“This building will host the Bank, but it also will host the Ministry of Tourism, and the Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc., representing for us a symbolic reflection between the banks and the Government.”

“This Bank represents the best of what is available between the partnership between management and staff, and this Bank affords the people of this community the opportunity to access services that will allow the citizens in this country to move forward,” Prime Minister Mottley said.

According to the leader of the nation who took time from heading her weekly Cabinet meeting to attend the opening ceremony, said investment and partnership are important at this time, since Barbados’ economy has suffered from a lack of confidence over the last few years.

“There has not been a sufficient level of investment to drive growth in our economy. The truth however is, that over the course of the last three months my Government has had to confront that reality, recognizing that even in the context of difficult and challenging economic times, it is important to highlight those who choose to have confidence in the way ahead and in the future that can be ours. This Bank, opening here on this spot is an example of that confidence . . .,” Mottley said.

Meanwhile, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Republic Bank, Anthony Clerk, said the new branch, occupying the ground floor at One Barbados Place, signals the Bank’s commitment to serving the people of Barbados. Clerk noted that as it stands now, Republic Bank maintains the highest number of branches of any commercial bank on the island, and concomitantly, the highest number of staff with more than 500 employees.

“Republic Bank also has the widest ATM network, maintaining a presence in the most convenient locations all across Barbados from St. Lucy in the north to St Joseph in the East, with the most highly used ATM in all of Barbados at the Glebe in St. George."

“For Republic Bank, our commitment to the people of Barbados continues to not only be strategic location of our facilities, but the quality and relevance of the services required by our customers,” the Managing Director said.

Also in attendance at the event was Governor of the Central Bank Cleviston Haynes. (AH)
