Quiet anniversary of Campus Trendz tragedy

EIGHT years ago tragedy struck Barbados, the likes of which had not been seen in recent history.

Six young women tragically lost their lives in a fire which consumed the Campus Trendz store on Tudor Street in the City.

Barbadians were thrown into a state of shock, pain and anger when the news quickly spread that two would-be robbers threw an explosive device into the building and it went up in flames taking the lives of Shanna Griffith, Nikkita Belgrave, Pearl Cornelius, Tiffany Harding, Kellishaw Olivierre and Kelly Ann Welch.
The building which housed the painful memories of that fateful night back on September 3 2010 was demolished in March 2017, even though many persons still consider the entire block and other stores in the City to be a fire hazard.

On Monday, many persons took to social media to remember the beautiful souls taken too soon. Others commented that the anniversary of their deaths which in the past was marked by a march, a service or a moment of silence almost went by unnoticed.
