Spruced up!

When the new school term gets underway, students entering St. George Secondary School for the first time will be entering classrooms with a new look.

The seven classrooms of the first form block are being given a fresh coat of paint. Chairman of the new Board of Management of the school, Calvin Alkins, on Wednesday stated the work to this section of the school was to be completed by courtesy of a company’s kind donation. He stated it “will take around three to four working days to be completed.”

“As we started the job recently, we have been appealing to the public of Barbados and we were given this kind donation by a company. The value of the donation is about $5 000 in paint and labour that they gave and we will continue to seek pubic assistance so that we can get the school up to shape. We know that with limited resources it will be difficult but we will continue to appeal to the public because this is part of our outreach programme so that we can partner with members of the public to assist the school in whatever way possible, he stated.”

Alkins further told The Barbados Advocate that the first form block is just a start and that over time they are hoping to spruce up other classrooms throughout the school.

Deputy Chairman, Joy-Ann Haigh also spoke of plans of that Board of Management to positively promote the school.

“It is our goal to make St. George Secondary School number one. Every month we plan to put this school and their accomplishments for everyone to see. So look out for St. George on CBC at least every month and certainly, we want the public to know that with all the challenges all the schools have, we are dedicated as a Board to make sure that we support the teachers of this school and the children to make the school number one on this island,” she said.
