Great start for Harrison College

Playing on back to back days, Harrison College A and B played their way to victories in the Co-operators General Insurance U-16 Schools Basketball league competition.

Graydon Sealy was the first statistic when they faced off at home against Harrison College B. They jumped out to an 8-1 lead at the end of the first and looked the more practised team. Each player making moves that were fundamentally sound.

Nicholas Thorne of Graydon was not sitting back to watch the game get completely out of hand. The tall centre put up seven of his team’s nine second quarter points to try to keep the game within reach. Unfortunately College was rolling behind Tyrell Gill and Damani Bynoe-Forde with eight and six points respectively in the second. They were the only two players to score for HC to help them go into the half up 22-10.

The lead was 12 but the low scoring trend returned for Graydon after the break. Three points was all the home team could muster and that caused the deficit to grow to 17, 30-13 with one quarter left.

The last quarter was the weakest one for the visitors with nine points and that helped the opposition cut into their lead somewhat but in the end the final score was 36-22.

Harrison College A took on Deighton Griffith the next afternoon and literally blew them off the court. The statement College made with their first home game was immense. It was a 75-2 victory, a powerful message to defending champions Queen’s College who also won against the Lodge School 47-22.

Combermere was also in winners row when they defeated Christ Church Foundation 30-21. (AS)
