Construction of BVTB centre set to begin next year

Construction of the Barbados Vocational Training Board (BVTB) Centre at Sayes Court is to begin in the first quarter of 2018.

This was revealed by Director of Training, Henderson Thompson, during a graduation ceremony, which was held at the Lester Vaughan Secondary School recently.

“It will house new space for cosmetology, electrical installation, masonry, heavy duty truck driving, medical stations and others. Construction is to start at the beginning of 2018 and we look forward eagerly to the completion,” he said.

Acknowledging that the development of the teachers at the BVTB was important, Thompson went on to boast of the accomplishments of his teachers as two of them would have received their Master’s with distinctions at the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus. In addition to these, some of the other teachers would have received outstanding results upon completion of the Vocational Training Programme, which was held at the Erdiston Teachers’ Training College.

“These results speak well to the quality of our teachers and our institution and our potential for further and future growth. I will go further to say that of our teacher graduates to have passed through Erdiston, all of them received an A in teaching practice,” he beamed.

Thompson noted that the BVTB had plans to grow and even though their strategic plan 2014-2017 recently came to an end, through evaluations of their accomplishments or shortcomings, they recognise that they have more to do.

“We have already started our strategic planning for 2017-2020 under the expert and professional guidance of the Caribbean Centre for Development Administration. They will provide their expertise to assist the BVTB in developing the correct framework that will be the foundation for three years of a strategic plan,” he said.

“This consultancy leads to the renewal of the three-year plan and facilitates the development of the 2017-2020 plan to ensure that we fulfil our mandate to the public of Barbados.”
