St. Thomas, St. Philip South through to Thompson Classic quarters

St. Thomas and St. Philip South both booked berths in the quarter-finals of this year’s David Thompson Memorial Constituency Council Football Classic after taking wins this past weekend. Playing in the Round of 16 matches held at Silver Sands on Saturday night, the sides took one-goal victories to see them leaving their opponents in the dust.

St. Thomas, who were the losing finalists in the inaugural tournament, eased into the next round in the first game at the venue by beating Christ Church West-Central with a single goal. Okeefe Yearwood put his team on early in the seventh minute and that was enough to see them all the way through.

St. Philip South had it a bit harder as they were forced to come from behind after Jamal Pinder got Christ Church East off the mark in the 51st minute. Demar Linton came in four minutes later with the equaliser for the St. Philip side while T’Shane Lorde got the game-winner in the 76th for the 2-1 win.

The Round of 16 continues this week with two games at Passage Road on Wednesday night. St. Michael South face St. James South in the first game at 6 p.m., while the night-cap goes to St. Michael West and St. Lucy at 8 p.m. (MP)
