UWI gunning for Sports Council this weekend

THE University of the West Indies (UWI) will be hoping for a big result to see them over the one major hurdle they have in getting their hands back on a Women’s League title when they come up against the National Sports Council (NSC). Playing in the night-cap game on Sunday night at Bagatelle, the 2015 winners are currently in second place behind the NSC and will be putting everything on the line in what could easily be their last chance to overtake the defending champions.

The many-time winners lead the league with 21 points with a flawless performance in seven games. The UWI ladies (18) have also played seven games, but have six wins to show after losing to the Sports Council in the first round of games. Mavericks have been trying to keep themselves in the running and are holding on to third place with 18 points as well. However, they have taken eight games to get there and have won six of them.

Kick Start Genesis have an even split of four wins and four losses in their eight with 12 points in total. Eden Stars Football Club Unity Stars have also played eight games, but have only mustered three wins for nine points. Technique and Ellerton close out the standings with three points and zero respectively after eight games each.

On Sunday afternoon, Technique and Unity Stars kick things off at the Bagatelle ground from 3 p.m. Mavericks and Genesis are up next in the 5 p.m. game, while UWI and NSC face off in the top-of-the-table clash at 7 p.m.
