Burke to compete at 10K surfing event

TWENTY-YEAR-old Barbadian Josh Burke will become the first male Bajan surfer to ever compete in a World Surf League (WSL) Qualifying Series (QS) 10000 event, the highest level in professional surfing before reaching the World Championship Tour.

The WSL EDP Billabong Cascais QS 10000 starts today through October 5 with a solid forecast on hand at the event site of Carcavelos Portugal calling for 5ft-12ft surf throughout the event window.

“This is my first 10K event so naturally I am fired up to get going, I spent this past month travelling through Europe competing and climatising, I am really enjoying it here in Portugal, my boards are working great. I am feeling in good shape, just hope I get the right waves in my opening heat,” said Burke.

The event can be viewed LIVE online at worldsurfleague.com.

Burke is in heat # 5 Round #1 competing against David do Camo of Brazil, Diego Mignot from France and Tomas Femandes of Portugal.
