Summit to assist entrepreneurs on path to success

Providing a new approach to start-up businesses and giving them actionable steps that they can implement.

This is what Selwyn Cambridge, Co-Founder of The Entrepreneurial Network (TEN) promises entrepreneurs will be among the major benefits of the Cable and Wireless Business and Ten 1st Caribbean Start-Up Summit.

Speaking yesterday at the launch event for the Summit at the offices of Cable & Wireless Business in Warrens, Cambridge also revealed that they are targeting 150 start-ups. He reported that so far the response has been very encouraging from people in Barbados and throughout the region.

Cable and Wireless Business has joined forces with The Entrepreneurial Network (TEN) to deliver this event – an innovative forum which will bring together a global community of experts and business
support to help regional entrepreneurs succeed in their start-up journey.

During the two-day event, which will be staged at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre between April 29th & 30th, a total of 15 speakers drawn from Barbados, the wider Caribbean, North America, Canada, the United Kingdom and Africa will make presentations to delegates on a wide range of business topics.

“Cable & Wireless Business was created to help local companies improve productivity, streamline efficiencies and exploit the opportunities of tomorrow today .For quite some time, we have been laying the foundations for a truly connected environment and this means the opportunities for personal and commercial growth can now be delivered at superfast speeds over the most advanced telecoms network in the Americas.

"We also believe that partnerships such as the one that we have with TEN affords us the opportunity to impact mass audiences at every level of society , which in turn allows us to make good on our promise of ‘connecting communities  and transforming lives’, said Jaggernauth Dass, Vice President, Cable & Wireless Business.

Cambridge outlined, “The 1st Caribbean Summit would provide delegates with valuable master-classes, workshops, open forums and live link -ups, along with opportunities to pitch business ideas to potential investors.

"During the summit, we will also be launching the ‘TEN Habitat’, a fully functional community structure with an autonomous hybrid accelerator at its core, where students and budding entrepreneurs can find themselves as a part of multidisciplinary teams immersed in the actual development of entrepreneurial ideas.”

Davidson Ishmael, Operations Manager of Axel Finance added, “We are excited about being part of this initiative. Axel Finance is the region's new micro finance institution. Micro finance across the world has provided access to thousands of small entrepreneurs who would not have been able to have access to credit through the more traditional mechanisms, or find difficulty in getting that access.

"Micro Finance has been able to provide short-term, small, hassle-free loans in a very innovative way and Axel Finance has pioneered a very innovative way to advance capital to persons in the small to medium enterprise sector to allow them to grow and expand. Thus, we appreciate the opportunity to partner with organisations that are helping entrepreneurs to develop.” (NB)
