Premier League picks back up today

The University of the West Indies Blackbirds have an opportunity to put some space between them and the three-time defending champions, Barbados Defence Force Sports Programme as the Barbados Football Association’s Digicel Premier League continues today. After beating the soldiers in a top-of-the-table clash last weekend, UWI will be looking for a win today as they continue their second-round campaign.

Playing their 11th game last weekend at the Wildey Astro Turf, the win saw the Blackbirds to 27 points off nine wins and two losses. The Sports Programme have also played 11 games but eight wins and two draws have them just one point behind on 26. Last week's loss was their first for the season. Direct TV Paradise (23) are in third place with a game in hand after winning seven and drawing two.

Weymouth Wales are at number-four, 10 games into the season. They have five wins and two draws but three losses have them on 17 points. Mackeson Brittons Hill United are trying to hold their own as they round out the top-five. They have 15 points from four wins and three draws in 10 games. Rendezvous FC (13) seems to have lost the magic that saw them slugging their way to the top flight and are in sixth place with only four wins and a draw from their 10 games.

This year's promotees, Empire Club and Phone Repair Medic Belfield are the only other teams with 11 games played and they hover just over the relegation zone with 10 and nine points respectively. Empire have made theirs from three wins and a draw, while Belfield picked up their points from three wins. Clayton's Kola Tonic Notre Dame and Lumisol Technology Inc. Pinelands are the teams in the red and both have played 10 games. The Dames have two wins and two draws for eight points while Pinelands have one single point from a draw.

Today's games at the Astro Turf have Paradise and Brittons Hill going at it first in the 4:00 PM fixture. Belfield and Rendezvous are up next at 6:00 PM while the Blackbirds and Weymouth kick off at 8:00 PM.
