Jalon Samuel gets up on the line to win with Stolen

JOCKEY Jalon Samuel continued his liking for winning big races at the Garrison Savannah, as yesterday, the eighth day of the Barbados Turf Club’s first racing season, he won the feature, Joe Tudor Memorial and Grandstand Posse Fillies Trial (GR. 1RF. - BAR), for West Indian Bred 3-year-olds, going 1570 metres, on the Jean-Marc Cozier owned and trained, 3-year-old chestnut filly, Stolen, bred by Diana Jones.

Leaving the gates quickly was the X & X Inc owned, Pay As You Go, trained by Andy Ward and ridden by Damario Bynoe.

Quickly getting into contention was Midnight Chick and Daddy’s Wish.

Positions remained the same until approaching the two furlong marker, when Daddy’s Wish challenged Pay As You Go, as Midnight Chick started to back pedal.

With 25 metres to go, when it looked like Pay As You Go and Daddy’s Wish would be fighting out the finish, Samuel produced Stolen with a devastating finish to get up on the line to win. Pay As You Go was second. Third was Daddy’s Wish, who looked in need of the race after a lay off. Finishing fourth was Sadler’s Dream.

The winner collected $17, 288 and a Trophy.

The second feature was the Grandstand Posse Colts & Geldings Trial (GR. !RC&G -BAR) for West Indian Bred 3-year-olds going 1570 metres.

This one was won by the Victor Cheeseman, & Merven Rollins owned, 3-year-colt, Northern Star, bred by Cheeseman, Rollins and Tristan Forde, Cheeseman is also the trainer, while Antonio Bishop was the rider.

Leaving the gates quickly in this one was Mr. Busanga, followed by Steven Allan and Guest Again.

Going to the four furlong marker, it was Mr. Busanga, Northern Star and Steven Allan in a battle for the lead.

Northern Star, put his head in front going to the two furlong marker, and from there, he had no challengers, as he ran out a easy winner, from the Allan & Steven Madoo owned Steven Allan, trained by Robert Peirce, and ridden by Jalon Samuel. Finishing third was the Jerry Alleyne owned Banja, also trained by Peirce and ridden by Ricky Walcott, while Guest Again was fourth.

The supporting feature on the card was the Grandstand Posse Spa Ferry Cup (Handicap) for 3-year-olds and older rated 140 and below going 1570 metres.

Quickly out of the gates was Lavani, but within 25 metres, the Aysha Syndicate owned, Just A Fashion, trained by Victor Cheeseman with Antonio Bishop in the saddle, cruised into the lead, and from there he virtually canter to victory, making it look like he was going through an east exercise gallop. The G. DeVere Davis owned, Joshua, trained by Boston John with Antonio Whitehall was second. The Bill & Hayley Blevins owned Giovedi train by Jonathan Simpson and ridden by Reshawn Latchman was third, with stable mate, Janak’s Gold fourth.
