Lakers recover to beat Tridents

The Barbados Lumber Company Lakers fended off a resilient Combined Schools Tridents to take the victory 72-59 in their game for the Co-operators General Insurance Barbados Amateur Basketball Association Premier League.

The Tridents pushed the Lakers almost to the end of the game but fell short after they started to miss shots in the fourth quarter at the Garfield Sobers Sports Complex. The lead was only four at that point, 52-48 when the Tridents lost their focus and the Lakers found their footing and pushed to the end. Mark Bridgeman topscored and had a double double of 19 points and 13 rebounds with national forward Kregg Jones in support with his own double double of 15 points and 13 rebounds. The two forwards were supported by their wing player and sharp shooter Keefe Birkett who had 16 points and 9 rebounds.

In the absence of Nikolai Burton, Andrew Ifill stepped up for the Tridents to pile on 18 points on the night as he shot 9 of 20 from the field to lead the team in scoring. Jehu Laffeuille was big on the night down low with 11 points and 16 rebounds and Shaquan Carrington was stellar from the bench adding 10 points to the team effort. The Tridents played well but when the old veteran Sidney ‘Bouncer’ Rowe came off the bench in the fourth quarter to take command of the key on offense and score 7 points in the fourth and with Bridgeman and Jones, ended the hope of the Tridents once and for all.
