Pinelands, Kick Start and Pro Shottas take crowns in Barbados Cup

AFTER making it to three finals and winning one in 2015, KFC Pinelands moved over to make some room for other teams at the end of this year’s Barbados Cup. With the side searching for a second win in the Under-13 category, they fell short of the goal but were still able to take home the Under-11 title after making it into the semifinals of all the divisions this year.

With both the Under-11 and Under-13 finals being played at the old Banks Brewery facility, the younger sides were up first as Pinelands came up against debutantes West Coast. Two goals, both from Christian St. Hill left West Coast stunned at the end of the exchange to see them settling for second place. In the Under-13 final, it was Kick Start who edged out the defending champions on penalties after neither team was able to score at the end of regulation and extra time.

It was an in-house affair over at the BET grounds as two Pro Shottas teams were forced to duke it out in the Under-15 final after booking their spots in Thursday’s semifinals. At the end of the exchange, Pro Shottas got the better of Pro Shottas United, handing their club-mates a three-nil drubbing.

Things looked rather even in the first half as both teams were goalless by the whistle. However, everything changed in the 31st minute as Dishon Howell opened the account for his team. Not too long after, Niall Reid-Stephens had the ball in the back of the nets in the 36th minute. The final goal, which was an absolute beauty, leaving the United defence in shambles, came from the boot of Sharif Mondore in the 43rd.
