Tridents climb higher with win over Warrens

THE Combined Schools Tridents put the pounding on the Pan American International Insurance Warrens Sports Club with a 71-63 defeat in their fight up the standings in the Co-operators General Insurance Barbados Amateur Basketball Association Premier League competition.

It was a pound down low game for the Tridents as they outrebounded Warrens 56-42 on the boards. Jehu Laffeuille top scored in the game with 23 points and took down a massive 15 rebounds down low. The six-foot seven centre was unstoppable in the key and made the Warrens ‘bigs’ fight hard to keep him off the glass. With key support coming from Nikolai Burton, who had 11 points and 13 telling rebounds of his own, Warrens were dismantled by points in the paint. Andrew Ifill and Shaquan Carrington both contributed with eight points each to give a well-balanced scoring attack for the school boys.

Warrens fought hard, but were still unable to rein in Laffeuille and Burton from scoring and rebounding. Greig Springer, Clive Holder and Manu Alleng all grabbed seven rebounds each while George Farrell took eight and Dario Cumberbatch had 11 rebounds on the night. The next major issue for the Warrens side was fitness and being unable to keep up with the Tridents. The pace of the game was fast and though Warrens were able to get to the free man fairly well, the extra pass or attacking drive took their defence apart.

Farrell top scored for Warrens with 15 points with support from Adrian Allman, who added 14 and Cumberbatch 11 points. Springer and Kirtly Carter both scored eight points in the team effort to take down the Tridents.

Tridents were proud and exuberant with the win over Warrens and have climbed over Warrens with the victory. Warrens will have to regroup and make some adjustments to their roster with fitness being an issue as well as a five that could be cohesive playing together. (AS)
