WIRD carries the torch for Barbados Rum at Rum & Spirits Convention

Aficionados of the Rum and Spirits industry got a taste of Barbados rum, when the country’s leading rum producer, West Indies Rum Distillery (WIRD) showcased its products at the Bar Convention in Brooklyn and Rum Fest in New York City earlier this week.

Popular mixologist, Damiean Williams and Master Blender, Don Benn shared with participants the incredible rum making history of the Distillery and its products including their flagship product, Plantation Rum.

Benn, who has been a rum maker for over 20 years and is the 2020 leading distiller of rum, took participants through the findings of the distillery vault where the daily production of rum has been carefully recorded for 128 years since 1893. He was joined by Alexandre Gabriel, Master Blender of Plantation Rum, who has been working very closely with the distillery team for the last 20 years and shared some details on all the projects and undertakings that have been happening in the last four years.

“Barbados is the birthplace of rum and the West Indies Rum Distillery, the backbone of Barbados rum. We are proud to be the flagship in representing Barbados by exporting to international markets and building the Barbados rum reputation worldwide. We are also proud to represent our team of people who have dedicated their lives to making great rum based on Barbados’

heritage and traditional techniques,” Benn stated.

Gabriel indicated in discussions with the hospitality industry executives that Barbados has big ambitions to grow the rum industry and the country’s economy. “Participating in these events give WIRD the unique opportunity to educate the consumer on what Barbados has to offer. We are glad to meet bartenders and distributors that help to promote and enhance Barbados’ rum reputation and WIRD is part of this collective effort.”

Benn will also be attending and representing WIRD at the upcoming bar convention in Berlin and Rum Fest in London.
