Water coolers donated to schools, polyclinic

STUDENTS at seven schools will benefit from water coolers donated to their institutions by the Muslim community.

Those attending the Branford Taitt Polyclinic will also benefit from a donated water cooler.

Yesterday, the Barbados Muslim Association, with the support from TMR Sales and Service Ltd., presented eight water coolers to seven schools and the polyclinic.

The beneficiary schools include Springer Memorial, Ellerslie, St. Leonard’s, Westbury, St. Mary’s, George Lamming, and Wesley Hall.

During the presentation of the water coolers, which took place at TMR, Fontabelle, St. Michael, yesterday, the Association’s Treasurer, Azhar Pandor, indicated that the Muslim faith encourages charitable endeavours.

He said the choice of donating the water coolers came about out of the recognition that water is important for every human being, including the younger generation.

“The insistence on adequate hydration, especially in these times of higher than usual temperatures, cannot be overstated. The Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, is reported to have advised a drink of water given to someone is charity.

“The Barbados Muslim Association, through the kind and generous support of its members from the Muslim community, plans to engage in further philanthropic endeavours of benefit to the Barbadian society. We thank all those who support our initiatives,” he said. (AH)
