Virtual fund-raiser to be staged to help local entertainers

Efforts are on by one local organisation to raise funds to assist its members who are facing financial difficulties at this time.

President of the Barbados Association of Creatives and Artistes (BACA), Sean “Apache” Carter, stated that organisation is in the process of setting up a virtual show which will be a fund-raiser. Though the exact date has not been selected, it is hoped that the event will occur in April. He told The Barbados Advocate it will have a two-fold purpose.

“We want to do two things. We want to be able to get some money into the pockets of the entertainers so they can meet their responsibilities and commitments, but we also want to highlight and showcase the talent that is actually on the hotel scene. The hotel entertainers that many of us don’t get to see.”

Carter said the BACA will be needing corporate Barbados to come on board and the public to support the initiative in order for it to be a success. He said the latter will be especially vital.

“Unfortunately during this COVID-19 period, many of the artistes have been doing free concerts, especially on Instagram, so the public has become accustomed to the free concerts and even more recently, you have the Stan’ Home Parties that come live on national television with the 98.1 DJs. Again, that is another free event, but we will be really, really asking the public to support this initiative to try to understand the plight of the entertainers.”

He added the fee for the concert “is not going to be expensive at all because we know everybody is feeling it, especially with a ‘Pause’ and majority [of] people not working. We know everybody is feeling it, but we are really going to be asking the public to support the virtual concert”.
