USA poll nominations reflect high quality of island’s tourism product

THE fact that Barbados has received five nomin-ations in USA Today’s annual travel expert poll, reflects the high quality of the island’s tourism product.

Robert Chase, Director of Marketing at the Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc. (BTMI), suggested the above during the USA Today’s Travel Expert Poll press conference, held at BTMI’s Head Office in the Warrens Office Complex in St. Michael, yesterday.

It was announced during the press conference that St. Nicholas Abbey is currently ranked one out of 20 in the Best Caribbean Attraction category, and George Washington House is ranked third. In the Best Restaurant in the Caribbean category, The Cliff Restaurant sits at number four out of 20 on the leader-board. Coming in at position number one out of 20 in the golf area, is the Green Monkey at Sandy Lane for the Best Caribbean Golf Course award; and in the final category, Best Caribbean Dive Site, Carlisle Bay ranks second.

The public is being invited to vote daily for the island in the USA Today’s 10 Best Reader’s Choice Awards in these nominated categories, which can be found online at 10best.com/awards/travel/ up until January 30, 2017.

“These nominations reflect the high quality of our tourism product and indicate the overall satisfaction of visitors who explore our island. As the Barbados Tourism Product Authority seeks to maintain our high standard, we must commend those industry partners responsible for the nominated sites, for understanding the importance of our tourism industry to our island home, and showcasing Barbados as the best there is,” Chase remarked.

“We at the BTMI are ecstatic at the current nominations and commend the staff of each of these establishments and their management and owners, along with our team of marketing experts and travel partners around the globe,” Chase added, noting that their efforts have led to a high number of repeat visitors coming time and time again to the island.

Chase also stressed that Barbados, as the culinary capital of the Caribbean, is known for a wide range of culinary cuisine, which ranges from Zagat-rated street food experiences to exceptional fine dining, as exemplified by The Cliff Restaurant, one of the Category leaders in the USA poll nominations.

“As sun, sea and sand are still some of the prime reasons why visitors come to our shores, we are also thrilled that our efforts as a country to create spectacular dive sites in our Carlisle Bay, where many visitors have enjoyed snorkelling with the turtles, has paid big dividends,” he also stated.

Representatives of four of the entrants were on hand to note their delight in having been selected for the USA Today’s annual travel expert poll. Risha Daniel represented the Sandy Lane’s Green Monkey Golf Course, while Larry Warren represented St. Nicholas Abbey. Dr. Karl Watson represented George Washington House and Peter Harris represented The Cliff Restaurant. (RSM)
