Tablet Project expands with All Saints’ Primary School

Businessman and Philanthropist, Andy Stewart continues to embrace the efforts of The Aron & Christina Foundation to give the gift of technology to children in his beloved parish of St Peter.

Through his generosity, All Saints’ Primary School has been added to the Tablet Project, which is aimed at preparing students across Barbados to be part of the technically driven world.

Yesterday, 73 Kindle Fires were presented to the Class three students.

On hand for the presentation ceremony, MP for St. Peter, the Hon. Colin Jordan thanked Mr. Stewart and Aron and Christina Truss for acknowledging his and the former Prime Minister of Barbados, the Rt. Hon. Owen Arthur’s call to consider adding that school to the initiative.

“We have now reached All Saints’ only because these devices cost money, so we had to search for persons who are willing to donate…I am very thankful to Mr. Stewart who lives in St Peter. He is not Barbadian, but he has come here to live, and he has shared over the years with Barbados.”

Jordan, the Minister of Labour explained to the students that the world is changing, “Our research at the Ministry says to us that these devices are the devices of the present and the future…. These tablets are tools to assist you in learning and I want to ask you to take care of them.”

Mr. Truss revealed that the Foundation will distribute 1,000 tablets this academic year, 2018/2019.

“My wife and I started our charitable Foundation almost 10 years ago because we realised that without access to technology, students would be at a great disadvantage in the workplace in the future…We decided that we wanted to do something to give as many children the opportunity to own such a device,” he said.

“We have selected students in Class 3 as we feel that they are old enough to handle the responsibility of taking care of the tablet and will have it to assist them with the two years of preparations for the Common Entrance Exam. We encourage the teachers to use the tablets as a teaching tool and incorporate their use into the curriculum.”

Noting that there will be no replacements, Mr. Stewart urged the students to care for the tablets and use them wisely.

“These devices will help you to learn enormously, and this is the right age to start embracing computer skills,” he expressed. (TL)
