2018 a great year for Sandy Lane

General Manager of Sandy Lane, Randall Wilkie has reported that 2018 was a great year for the luxury west coast resort.

He told a gathering at the annual Employee Recognition & Gala Awards Dinner on Friday night, that this was in part a result of “the business we would have gained due to the closures of hotels throughout the Caribbean following the disastrous hurricane in 2017”, noting that this occurrence was an “anomaly and we will not likely see that increase again this year”.

Wilkie also revealed the hotel “has maintained its AAA 5 Diamond status for yet another year and for the fourth consecutive year, we have been awarded with the Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star Award. Sandy Lane was also the only hotel in Barbados to receive this honour.”

He added, “Sandy Lane was also named one of the “World’s Most Luxurious Hotels” by Forbes Travel Guide, awarded with The Conde Nast Traveller’s Readers’ Choice Award and received the British Airways Holiday Customer Excellence Award with an impressive score of 9.5 out of 10.”

The General Manager said that, going forward, the resort will continue its marketing efforts to increase new business to Sandy Lane, especially in the US market. “We have seen an impressive return on ad spend with over US $1.3 million in revenue generated from our 2018 digital advertising campaigns alone. Our newsletters and email campaigns also attributed to our revenues for the year 2018. We received over US$7.6 million in revenue from these communications,” he revealed.

Wilkie added there will be a continued “focus on management development, training simulations and [they will] implement cross training within each department. This year we will also introduce into our training portfolio, a Forbes Online Interactive Training Platform. The training will focus on Forbes Basic and Department standards,” he stated.

During Friday’s Dinner, “170 Champions and Coaches who showed excellence in attendance for 2018” were awarded. Additionally, “69 long service Champions and Coaches”, who have been employed by the hotel for ten to 30 years, were celebrated. The night was also extra special for the top awardees that did their various departments proud. These were: People’s Champion 2018 Female, Sandra Maughn (Culinary), People’s Champion 2018 Male, Majoe Armstrong (Golf Turf & Landscapes), Center Court of The Year Award, Michelle Gibson (Front House), Outfield of The Year Award, Anderson Watson (Engineering), Star of The Year Award, Esandia Wiltshire (Spa) and Coach of The Year Award, Michael Greaves (Stewarding).
