Students happy exam is over

A few tearful but mostly smiling faces greeted awaiting parents and guardians following the day’s Barbados Secondary School Entrance Examination (BSSEE).

The Class 4 pupils, who emerged from the exam centre at the Christ Church Foundation School yesterday after one o’clock, were quickly embraced and immediately inquiries were made about the test.

Several students used words such as “good” and “okay” as they described the day’s experience. When questioned further, many described the English component of the examination as “easy”, while the Mathematics was said to pose the greatest challenge. Giving further details, the Class 4s said they mainly had challenges with questions in Sections B and C of the Mathematics paper.

At Foundation, a total of 203 students from the Milton Lynch Primary School, Jones Primary School, Christ Church Girls’ Primary School, St. Christopher’s Primary School and Cane Vale Preparatory School took the examination.

Prior to the start of the Common Entrance, most parents and guardians said they were more nervous than their children, with a few admitting to secretly shedding a tear or two. Meanwhile, most pupils said they were eager to get the exam over with because they knew they would do their best.

The feeling changed at the conclusion of the test with both parents and students stating they were “relieved” and “happy” the BSSEE was completed and behind them.

Speaking about plans following the day’s exam, most parents and guardians interviewed said they would be taking their children out for an afternoon of re-laxation. Popular spots identified included Bubba’s Sports Bar & Restaurant, Café Sol, Sheraton Mall, Chefette Restaurant and Chilly Moos. (MG)
