Students excited about BCC courses

Fifth form secondary school students have expressed an interest in furthering their studies at the Barbados Community College (BCC) come September.

Speaking to the Barbados Advocate on the sidelines of an informational expo held for them yesterday at the BCC, one of these students, Ramario Phillips, a student of the Alexandra School, said that he thought the morning session was “nice”. Ramario is interested in pursuing the Culinary Arts Associate Degree because of his interest in cooking. He is currently doing Food and Nutrition and Health, Human and Social Biology, French, English Literature, Theatre Arts and Mathematics at the C.X.C. level and is hoping to take his culinary arts career “to the next level”.

Another Alexandra student, Latadican Standard, thought the morning session was “good”. She is interested in attending BCC to do Accounting, but stated that she was told that she would have to do at least one other subject, so she is thinking about Mathematics. Latadican hopes to head to the University of the West Indies (U.W.I.), Cave Hill Campus afterwards to do the Bachelors in Accounting, but is currently doing Social Studies, Mathematics, Principles of Business, Principles of Accounts, English Literature and Language and Food and Nutrition and Health at the C.X.C. level.

Her friend and classmate, Derrica Springer, also wants to do Accounts at the BCC and was given the same advice as Standard, so she is also considering Mathematics. Derrica is currently doing Information Technology (IT), History, Spanish and Mathematics at the C.X.C. level.
Meanwhile, Necoli Phillips, a student at the Alleyne School, stated that he found the morning session informative as he learnt more than he already knew about the college. He is interested in doing the Associate Degree in Physical Education because athletics has always been something that he is interested in doing.

Currently, a 400 metre specialist, he stated that he would like to use the knowledge gained to become a physical educational teacher and he is open to teaching all age groups. His interest in becoming a teacher comes as a result of wanting to share his experiences with the younger generation. He is currently doing Mathematics, Physical Education, English, Spanish, Geography, Physics and Electronics at the C.X.C. level. (PJT)
