St. Lucy sets record with fifth win

It was a record-setting night for St. Lucy when Ambassadors Daimon Rock and Jennice King secured that parish’s fifth win of the coveted title of Most Outstanding Parish Ambassadors.

The pair did so during Saturday’s Spirit of the Nation Show at the Garfield Sobers Complex. Following the announcement of their win, several persons, including St. Lucy’s Member of Parliament Denis Kellman, made their way to the stage to join the ambassadors in their excitement and celebration.

Securing the second position were the St. Joseph Parish Ambassadors Keshanna Leacock and Francois Carrington. Meanwhile, the third spot went to St. John Ambassadors Leah Howell and Kyle Prescod. St. Peter’s Ambassadors Reeko Deane and Shaneika McAllister were adjudged fourth place.

The 2017 Attendant of the Year was St. George’s Paula Harris. She outshone St. Thomas’ Jacklyn Broomes and St. Philip’s Shonelle Farrell who were second and third, respectively.

During Saturday’s show, top honours were also awarded to Christ Church

Parish Ambassadors Shenise Marshall and Raymond Thomas, who had the winning Parish Project Presentation. Their project was entitled, “Active Ageing – Building Lives One Step At A Time”. The duo additionally walked away with the Best Formal Wear prize on the night.

The second runner-up in the Parish Project Presentation segment was Leacock and Carrington of St. Joseph, whose project was “R.E.A.D.: St. Joseph An Open Book”. Meanwhile, third runner-up was St. Thomas’ Ambassadors Ranaldo Husbands and Amy Herbert. Their project focused on the theme, “St. Thomas C.L.E.A.N.”. Husbands, who dressed as Captain Clean, and Herbert, who was dressed as a Foliage Queen, also captured the coveted Best Costume award on the night.

The 2017 Spirit of the Nation show was a night to remember for 16-year-old Akea Burton, who topped the Parish Talent segment of the night’s event and seized the Spirit of the Nation Award. The St. Peter resident gave a beautiful rendition of “Walk Away From Love”.

Second place was the violin group, Stringed Brotherhood. They represented St. James well during their performance of Dr. Anthony “Gabby” Carter’s Emmerton. Third was St. Michael’s Tamia Reece, who did a dramatization “Dress Code”.
