Executive Director of the Caribbean Volunteers Awards Initiative, Nichole Murray

Special call for persons to nominate their unsung heroes

Persons of the public are being called to nominate their unsung heroes so that they have a chance to be regionally recognised for their efforts later this year during the Caribbean Volunteer Awards Ceremony.

This call came from the Director of the event Nichole Murray, who is also the Executive Secretary of the Caribbean Congress of Community Practitioners, during yesterday morning’s press conference which was held at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre. Murray expressed that persons should not feel intimidated when it came to nominating their “unsung heroes” rather, that the event was meant to showcase the ordinary person who did extraordinary things in the community and asked for nothing in return. She explained that the person could be someone in the neighbourhood that visited the senior homes once a week or lend a hand when a hand was desperately needed.

Persons that are looking to nominate a candidate for the Awards Ceremony should complete a form and submit it, along with a video of the nominating organisation or its leader showing the nominee at work via email to communitypractitionerscbbbn@gmail.com no sooner that March 31st 2017. The Director divulged that they were looking to have the nominee forms given out at the Library located in Bridgetown and said that it will be confirmed later whether or not forms will be available from that location.

Murray went on to explain that short-listed candidates are selected based on merit, with no regard to race, religion, gender, national origin, or physical/mental disability and added that multiple submissions from individual CARICOM member states and other Caribbean regions will be judged in national awards before being judged at the regional level. She welcomed persons to visit their Facebook page and cast their votes once the nomination process closed.

In the upcoming weeks, Murray announced that they will also be building and launching an official website which will provide any extra information that anyone will need for the nomination process.
