Sinckler agrees opposition parties out of touch

Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs, Christopher Sinckler, is agreeing with an assessment made recently by Prime Minister of Dominica Roosevelt Skerrit, that some opposition parties in the Caribbean are out of touch with the people and the realities of their countries.

He made the comments while speaking on Sunday night at the opening of the Democratic Labour Party’s St. Peter branch office at Mile and a Quarter, St. Peter, contending that the Dominican Prime Minister’s comments were almost as if he was referring to the Barbados Labour Party (BLP).

“In all of their actions, both onshore and offshore, it appears as though this mentality that you can mash it up, break it down, destroy all the institutions, rabble rouse, bully, strip naked the entire apparatus of governance in Barbados, bite away the values that matter in constructing and keeping a society such as ours, that in your quest to get the power, you can do all of these things and very easily within a week, within six months you are going to walk in everybody’s store in town … and buy the restoration of Barbados off the shelf,” he said.

He argued that this mash up and buy back mentality is dangerous to have, as economies and societies take hundreds of years to construct and the process, he contended, is far from easy. The Finance and Economic Affairs Minister made it clear to those gathered that the harm that such can cause cannot be easily rectified.

Sinckler’s comments came as he contended that in spite of the worst global recession seen since the Great Depression, and Barbados losing $200 million per year in revenue as a result of changes made by the Canadian Federal Government to its tax and banking laws, among other challenges, this country has been able to retain its status as one of the top developing countries in the world.
