Show respect!

Chief of Staff of the Barbados Defence Force Colonel Glyne Grannum has issued a stern warning to his troops – ensure your conduct is above reproach or get booted.

As he delivered the feature address at the St. Ann’s Fort on Saturday evening during the passing out parade for the 1/18 recruit intake, he told the group to ensure they always demonstrated the best behaviour whether in their homes, communities or even online.

“Whether it is spoken, demonstrated, Tweeted, Whatsapped, Facebooked or otherwise. For as I have said, we do not tear down, we build up. We don’t go low, we go high and be under no misguided illusion. You go low, you go out. You break the bonds of trust and loyalty to your comrades and to Barbados, you will walk, because you shall not serve under the crest of the Barbados Defence Force. You shall not be trusted to protect Barbados and its interests so take the core values and the code of conduct with you,” he stressed.

Furthermore, Grannum insisted that the members of his organisation demonstrated respect for all, regardless of gender, class or sexual orientation.
“Respect for gender, respect for class, respect for colour, respect for all the other variance of a rainbow and of diversity that persons seem to make points of in this day and age,” he emphasised.

Reminding them of the importance of working together as a team, he said that while one person may go faster, as a unit they would go further.

“Exercise due care and safety form the many physical, spiritual and moral perils and continue to strive for excellence in all that you do. Continue to keep Barbados’ Trident held high,” Grannum stated.

Fifty-one recruits were successful in completing the 21 weeks of intense military training, 13 of which are reserves.

The Top Recruit in the Regular Troops was Renaldo Husbands and in the Reserves was D. Howell. (JMB)
