Sealy lauds CAH staff
Caribbean Aircraft Handling Co. Ltd (CAH) has been essential to the tourism sector, which is of critical importance to Barbados’ economy.
Minister of Tourism and International Transport, Richard Sealy, made this observation as he expressed his appreciation to the staff who provide a selection of quality aviation products and services at the Grantley Adams International Airport.
“For example, you have been providing what is needed for passengers to embark and disembark aircrafts, and nobody even knows the amount of effort that goes in to allowing the planes to land and take off on time,” he pointed out during the company’s recently held 25th Anniversary Awards Dinner, at the Barbados Defence Force’s Grounds, St. Ann’s Fort, The Garrison.
Over the past 25 years, CAH has expanded and diversified to include passenger, ramp, and cargo services for clients – Air Antilles, Air Canada, American Airlines, JetBlue, LIAT and Virgin Atlantic. And associated services include load control, as well as the coordination of catering, maintenance, and fuel services.
“I have been the Minister of Tourism for 10 years and when I get the opportunity to meet tourism players, I always make the point that you are on the front-line of really feeding this nation.
“And it is a fact that it is not Ministers, Chairman of Boards, General Managers of hotels, it is the people who are grinding out in the backroom. And in many respects CAH and its near 400 staff complement is a fine example of what I am talking about… You provide an essential service to this country and we appreciate it,” he said.
“The truth is, we really don’t have much else besides tourism if you think about it. There is nothing under the ground - liquid or solid that anybody wants. I am not aware that we have diamonds, gold or oil of any appreciable quantities…But, the truth is all we have is one another in Barbados and an island that people like to visit, so tourism is it and tourism players therefore are the people who are on the front-line. You must never forget that, and I want you to continue to do what you have to do.”
