RPB and friends Walk as One for a worthy cause

Last Sunday morning the Red Foundation kicked off its virtual fundraiser “Walk the Talk – Walk as One”, starting with the first leg which took Cultural Ambassador and Patron of the foundation, Stedson “Red Plastic Bag” Wiltshire on a journey from East Point, St. Philip to the Grantley Adams International Airport.

The walk, the first of four for the month of November, which will take Red Plastic Bag from St. Philip to St. Lucy, is part of an effort to raise funds to help Barbadian families in need as the holiday season draws near.

Amidst a small gathering of excited supporters, the walk was declared officially open just after 6 a.m. by Member of Parliament for St. Philip North, Dr. Sonia Browne. Wiltshire began the first part of his journey across the island accompanied by friends and fellow entertainers, including Anderson “Blood” Armstrong, Mac Fingall, Adrian Clarke, CEO of Caribbean LED, Gerard Borely, and Member of Parliament for Christ Church Sought Ralph Thorne. He was later joined on Route by Member of Parliament for St. Philip West John King and Member of Parliament for St. Philip South Indar Weir who walked in solidarity to the finish.

Wiltshire said he enjoyed having his colleagues with him and he knows that they understand how important it is to be their brother’s keeper which is the mandate of the Red Foundation.  Minister Weir agreed, saluting Wiltshire for putting on the walk noting that there are a lot of persons currently going through tremendous pressure.

In observation of COVID-19 protocols, Wiltshire will Walk the Talk alone, but challenge celebrities, politicians and other public figures to go part of the distance with him. Barbadians can join in on the virtual walk through the Facebook and Instagram pages of the Red Foundation at @redfoundationbarbados and are encouraged to give generously either at the end of each leg of the walk, through www.kellmart.com, via the GOFundMe page set up in the name “Red Foundation”, or they can donate to the Red Foundation account at Republic Bank. Wiltshire added that there will also be barrels set up at Emerald City, Carlton & A1 and Massy Stores so supporters can donate food items for needy families.

“Walk the Walk – Walk As One” continues tomorrow, Sunday, November 15th at 6 a.m. with the second leg going from the Grantley Adams International Airport to Sky Mall.
