President, Lisa Cummins being installed during Friday’s ceremony.

Rotary Club of Barbados installs new President and Board

Lisa Cummins is the new President of The Rotary Club of Barbados. Cummins as well as the newly elected Directors and Officers for the year 2016-2017 were presented to the Club on Friday during the 54th Installation Ceremony at the Sweetfield Manor, Brittons Cross Road, St. Michael.

Cummins in her address outlined some of the plans of the Rotary Club of Barbados during her year as President.

“This is the 55th year of Rotary in Barbados in 50 years of Independence in Barbados and that is something fairly significant. And I think that what we are going to be finding ourselves with this year is the challenge of trying to figure out just how we position Rotary in this Barbados and in this region and globally, because we are part of the network called, Rotary International. We have many projects over the next month, community service, vocational service, international service and of course, the heart of our Club is community service and we intend to elevate that this year.”

Cummins also said that a focus of the Club during the year will be on the legacy of the organisation which has contributed in significant ways to the growth of this nation. She said work in this regard will be done through a project.

“Who are we as the Rotary Club? Why are we here? What are we doing? What is Rotary in Barbados and what is Rotary globally? As we look back on the years, we need to be able to show where Rotary has contributed to building our communities, building our society and contributing to our development and to our people. We in the first quarter of the New Year will be working on that Project called, ‘The Legacy Footprint Project’.” (MG)
