CROP OVER JUMP-UP X 2! Back in June of this year, DM Celebrations Lifestyle & Entertainment Inc. promised a Day 2 of Grand Kadooment and yesterday a street parade, which was propelled by the sweet sounds of the 2016 Crop Over festival, helped to transform the Ermie Bourne Highway into a festival-like atmosphere. Pictured some of those who took part in the event.

Revellers take to the road for Day Two

FOR the first time in Barbados, revellers had the opportunity to jump on two days for Crop Over. While many patrons assembled at the National Stadium to masquerade for Grand Kadooment, a fraction of those insatiable revellers headed to the Ermie Bourne Highway for the privately operated Day Two jump.

After being settled with breakfast, the revelry started at Lakes, St. Andrew and proceeded along the East Coast Road all the way to Cornwall House in St. Joseph. Upon reaching the destination, the party was not over.

The over 500-member band dispersed on the property to enjoy the after-party; fully equipped with food, a pool, breath-taking scenery and of course, plenty vibes. The jump, which was for the most part incident-free, was highly anticipated by many and so, every face was lit up with glee.

Speaking to one of the committee members of the event, Sean Thornton, The Barbados Advocate was told, “This is the first time in a few years that the bank holiday fell on the Tuesday, so we’re making the most of it, bringing Emancipation Day alive… So we got the highway to ourselves, this is the second day of Crop Over and we’re coming back every year as long as everyone will have and accommodate us, whether there is a bank holiday or not.”

Turning his attention to the turnout, he explained, “We are very happy with the turnout. We were very nervous knowing it’s the first time we are doing this, but up to this morning, we still had people trickling in to sign up; and so we are happy that people as well as our sponsors pulled through.”

For its inaugural year, the jump only saw one band touching the road, but it is anticipated that as the years progress, Day Two will grow bigger.
