Registration Department celebrates 130 years, staff

The hard work and dedication of staff at the Registration Department has not gone unnoticed.

It was recognised on Saturday night during an Awards Ceremony and Dinner held at Almond Beach Resort, as the Department continues to celebrate 130 years of providing the citizens of Barbados with accessible systems that maintain a high degree of public trust and confidence.

Jasper Phillips, who was deputising for the Attorney General and Minister of Home Affairs, Adriel Brathwaite, stressed that there cannot be a functioning and efficient justice system without the Registration Department.

He highlighted that the Department, which is comprised of The Supreme Court, The Magistrate’s Court, The Court Process Office, The Records Branch as well as several support units, has over
the years been servicing the needs of the Barbadian public in areas such as the regulation of Court appointments, the registration of Births and Deaths, the provision of Marshall Services and the overseeing of Civil Processes.

Phillips took the opportunity to offer his heartiest congratulations to the awardees, some of whom were celebrating over 40 years working at the Department.

“We are celebrating loyalty, enthusiasm, commitment and dedication to duty, and sheer hard work of all of those who have over the years made the judicial system what it has been – yourselves
included – and contributed to its success,” he expressed.

“No two human beings are the same, hence our richest resources are the diversities in each of us. Those who are receiving awards are justly deserving of them and I want to encourage the others, who were not rewarded on this occasion, to challenge yourselves to be recipients of awards next year. You can do so by redoubling your efforts to excel on the job during the ensuing year.”

The Registration Department also presented awards as a token of gratitude and appreciation to retirees Rosemary Leacock-Thomas, Patricia Wilson, Barbara Prescod, Gerald Trotman, Dorothy Gill-Davis and Orville Bryan. (TL)
