Principal of Queen’s College, Dr. David Browne, was the first to sign the pledge book at the Husbands, St. James school as the Broken Trident continued its trek across the parish, yesterday.

Queen’s College receives Broken Trident

Queen’s College welcomed the Commemorative Broken Trident yesterday.

Principal, Dr. David Browne, had the honour of receiving the symbolic Broken Trident, which commemorates the 50th anniversary of Barbados’ Independence, and signed “The Passport” officially accepting its receipt during morning assembly.

He told students that 50 years is but a short time in the life of a nation, when compared to countries like the United States and Haiti. However, he stressed that it is a time for serious reflection.

“The significance of this Trident here at Queen’s College, I hope, will also remind you that you are a part of this nation-building effort … and that people like me in another 50 years will not be around, and you would have to take the nation forward.

“There is a reason why we invest 20 per cent of our national budget on education every year. If you look at the Estimates this year, you will see that education received the largest chunk of the national budget… It is an investment in you; an investment in the nation,” he pointed out, encouraging all students to sign the pledge book during the course of the day.
