QEH to receive two new Ambulances

MINISTER of Health, the Hon. John Boyce, has revealed that the Queen Elizabeth Hospital will be the recipient of two new ambulances tomorrow [Tuesday], making it six ambulances that the institution would have received with him as Minister.

This announcement was made yesterday at a church service to celebrate the Barbados Nurses Association, and as he recounted an incident where his friend, the Hon. Robert “Bobby” Morris, had to be taken to the hospital on Saturday night. According to the Minister, while the event was a sad one, he was pleased to see how equipped the ambulance’s EMTs adequately handled the situation.

Boyce stated that it is for this reason that he is persistent in ensuring that there are sufficient ambulances on the island for those who may need them, so that the nightmare of awaiting lengthy times for an ambulance, or hearing that there are none available, would be a thing of the past.

Turning his attention to the nurses who are celebrating Nurses’ Week, Boyce implored them to continue working hard. Under their theme, “Nurses a Force for Change: Improving Health’s System and Resilience”, he told them that much has changed in the description of their work, and as such, sophisticated technologies are being utilised.

Adhering to the Sustainability Development programme outlined in the Universal Health Care, The Minister reminded the nurses that they are the centre of health care delivery, and are often known as the key players in the health care fraternity. Given this, he extended his accolades to them for their hard work and long suffering.

Moreover, Boyce stated that it is important that everyone has access to affordable and accurate health care, bearing in mind that good health is the sum total of physical, mental and spiritual health and not the mere absence of disease.
