Protocols being followed

Classes resumed at The Ellerslie School yesterday as staff and students headed back to the St. Stephen’s Black Rock facility following its temporary two-week closure.

The secondary school was closed on October 5 due to one student testing positive for COVID-19. Another student, a relative of the first, tested positive a few days later.

In a walkthrough of the facility over the weekend, Acting Chief Education Officer Joy Adamson said there had been a thorough and deep cleaning of all areas including its administrative block, classrooms, specialist areas and the pavilion.

In speaking to The Barbados Advocate, one teacher said the same COVID-19 protocols used at the beginning of the school term including sanitisation and temperature checks upon arrival, use of face masks and social distancing continued to be in place and stressed that students and staff were following these guidelines strictly.

“We all know what we have to do and we are doing it. I am glad to be back and I am not worried like I was a two weeks ago when we first heard the news. These are unprecedented times and we just have to ensure we do the right things to keep safe,” the teacher noted. (JMB)
