The Prince of Wales to visit Barbados as it transitions to a Republic

HRH The Prince of Wales will visit Barbados later this month, to mark Barbados’ transition to a Republic within the Commonwealth.
In a press release from Clarence House, issued via the British High Commission here in Barbados, it was noted that the Prime Minister of Barbados, The Honourable Mia Amor Mottley extended an invitation to The Prince, as future Head of the Commonwealth, to be Guest of Honour at the Republic Celebration events.
It has also been noted that His Royal Highness will also undertake a short programme of engagements in Barbados. Clarence House has meanwhile indicated that The Royal Household will take all neces- sary measures to comply with COVID-19 regulations and guidance in Barbados, during the course of this event.
When Barbados officially becomes a Republic on November 30th, 2021 as the island celebrates 55 years of Independence, it will mean that British monarch Queen Elizabeth II, the mother of Prince Charles, will no longer be the Head of State. Governor General of Barbados, Her Excellency Dame Sandra Mason, will serve as the first President of Barbados. However, the Barbados govern- ment has noted that there will be no change to our Flag, the National Pledge, the name of Barbados or even Independence Day in how it is titled.
Earlier this week, ahead of news of this latest development of the scheduled visit, Prince Charles met with Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley at the 2021 United Nations Climate Change Conference, also known as COP26, in Glasgow, Scotland. Ahead of their bilateral meeting during COP26, they both engaged in conversation, before delving into climate matters.
The Prince of Wales last visited Barbados back in March 2019, during a Caribbean Tour with The Duchess of Cornwall.
