Power outage hits Bridgetown area, restored by 11 a.m.

A NUMBER of residents and businesses in and around the City were left in the dark after a power outage yesterday morning.

Barbados Light & Power (BL&P) Communications Co-ordinator Jennifer Blackman explained in a media release that just after 8 a.m., a fault occurred on an overhead transmission line in the City.

“At the time, a second underground transmission line in Bridgetown was out of service for repairs, and the combination of these two lines being out at the same time resulted in the outages experienced,” it was revealed.

Blackman noted that by approximately 9 a.m. all customers were initially restored, but the supply to a few customers had to be temporarily interrupted later in the morning to maintain system stability, while repair work was in progress. Electricity was restored to all affected around 11 a.m.

“Light & Power apologises for the inconvenience this may have caused affected customers and thanks them for their patience and understanding,” she said.
