Peter Edey endorses Get Into programme for youth

Executive Chef Peter Edey, Managing Director of The Dining Club Group of Companies, has endorsed the Get Into Programme, noting that its hospitality arm will be a perfect link for the Caribbean Cuizine segment he currently pushes on local television.

His endorsement of the programme came during the recently held Employers’ Summit put together by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth and Prince’s Trust International, the UK based charity pushing the programme, which seems to aid youth in gaining employability skills and valuable work experience. Two pilots of the Get Into Programme, Get Into Hospitality and Get Into Logistics, will soon be launched in Barbados.

“We have now what is called the Caribbean Culinary Conference and we bring students between the ages of 13 and 20 from all across the Caribbean,” he also revealed.

“So last weekend, we had seven islands from across the Caribbean here to compete in Barbados. You are going to see it on TV, but just so you know, Bahamas actually won in the end and this is  what it is all about as far as I am concerned. This is where I met Susan Martin (International Project Manager with Prince’s Trust International). So when she came over to me to talk about the Prince’s Trust, it was just an automatic link for me, (based on) what the Prince’s Trust is doing and what we do at Caribbean Cuizine,” Edey explained.

He added, “It is also a school, so it works very, very well for what is happening with the Prince’s Trust, because now you have a certified body at this Institution, through the TVET Council. It’s a certified examining centre for the TVET Council and we work very closely with the Competency Based Training Fund. So I thought it was a fantastic link,” Edey said of the partnership. (RSM)
