Minister in the Ministry of Foreign Trade, Sandra Husbands.

People gaining a new perspective

The COVID-19 pandemic is giving people in Barbados and across the globe a new perspective on the value of human life, the importance of human interaction, as well as the importance of trade.

Minister in the Ministry of Foreign Trade, Sandra Husbands suggested the above, as she made her contribution recently to the Estimates debate.

“I think, like no other, this particular experience that we are having with COVID, is giving people a new perspective on a number of things. Over the past couple of weeks, I have watched the interactions of people here in Barbados and overseas and one of the things it is certainly doing, is giving people an appreciation for that which they took for granted,” Husband remarked.

“People have taken for granted relationships, been able to hug and touch each other. They take work for granted. Indeed some people are careless with their work, careless with their health, but if it is one silver lining that COVID will deliver to Barbados, it is to begin to help Barbadians to appreciate the importance of their relationships and the fact that we must each do our part in making life work,” Husbands further noted.

“If it is one thing that this pandemic does for us, not only as a nation, but certainly as the family of humanity, is help people to understand the importance of trade,” she added.

She meanwhile stressed the role of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade in relation to ensuring the well-being of Barbadians and the country in general, even as Government works to ensure that the country stays on track and is not derailed by the economic impact of COVID-19. (RSM)
