Paediatric Intensive Care Unit receives donation from children’s charity

The Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) on the Children’s Ward of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) yesterday received a donation of Bds $1 000 from a charitable organisation, entitled A Gift For The Children.

Handing over the cheque in the PICU was Treasurer of the A Gift For The Children charitable organisation, Tony “Poser” Grazette, while the charity’s director Andrea Marshall looked on. Receiving the donation was PICU Consultant, Dr. Kandamaran Krishnamurthy, who was accompanied by Senior Nursing Officer Deanis Gooding and Registered Nurse Andrea Escamilla.

“We started A Gift For The Children in February 2013. This is $1000 now, but in all (we have distributed) $12 000 (in total) to the PICU and two private persons, over the three years (of our existence),” Grazette commented, adding that the QEH’s Children’s Ward has received approximately $7 000 out of that total figure.

“So it’s a pleasure for myself and Andrea to come here and give to them, whenever we can do it,” Grazette told members of the media.

PICU Consultant, Dr. Kandamaran Krishnamurthy expressed his gratitude to the charitable organisation and its representatives present, for the ongoing support given to the Unit. He noted that the donation will be used to purchase equipment for the Unit.

“Specifically in the last couple of years, you know the economic situation. Given the contribution, it will be useful for buying more so smaller equipment and instruments, which are very useful,” he stated.

The PICU consultant added that while there is a “bucket list” of needs that the PICU has, all donations go a long way in supporting the Unit.

He meanwhile revealed that there are plans in the making to expand the Unit, from a four bed unit, to one that can hold six beds. (RSM)
