Ocean Hotels Group supports The Bahamas

WITH relief efforts still ongoing to The Bahamas which was devastated by Hurricane Dorian, one local hotel group has stepped forward to offer its support.

The Ocean Hotels Group did so last Friday through a financial donation in sum of $6 000 to the “CDEMA/Barbados Bahamas Relief Fund”. The cheque was presented by Managing Director of Ocean Hotels Barbados, Dominic Defreitas and accepted by Executive Director of the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA), Ronald Jackson. Also on hand were Ocean Hotels Barbados’ Sales and Marketing Manager, Jacqui McDermott and Barbados’ Ambassador to the CARICOM, David Commissiong.

The day’s presentation was one of the ways the Ocean Hotels Group has contributed to relief efforts for the Bahamas. The group has also assisted in other ways and overall has donated $24, 000.
McDermott while addressing the audience at Sea Breeze Beach House said the donation was the group’s way of “showing support to CDEMA’s mission of building disaster resilience in the Caribbean and recognising their efforts.”

She continued, “Our contribution therefore is to demonstrate our belief that as part of the one Caribbean family we need to stand besides our neighbours and even when they are in the shadows of despair, they can with the assistance of these initiatives, receive hope and strength to rise again.”

McDermott also encouraged others in the industry and their partners in the business community to support where they can.

Both Jackson and Commissiong thanked the Ocean Hotels Barbados for their generosity. Commissiong additionally reminded members of the public that they can continue to make donations to the ‘CDEMA/Barbados Bahamas Relief Fund’ by going to any branch of CIBC FirstCaribbean International Bank. (MG)
