No curfew from June 30th

The current curfew in place will be lifted from June 30th.

This was announced by Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley during an address to the country yesterday.

“We have reflected and met, and the current protocols finish on the 29th of June. Accordingly, as of the 30th of June, the Government of Barbados will be removing the curfew from the landscape of this nation, for the period of time that we continue to improve,” she said.

“Hopefully we will never have to see it again. But that is up to all of us, because I can’t promise you that we will not apply brakes, if we have problems. But on the current trajectory of the last 90 days, we anticipate that as long as we continue to behave as we’ve been behaving, then there would be no reason for us to reintroduce it.”

Mottley was proud to announce that 65 395 Barbadians were fully vaccinated and 91 569 Barbadians had received their first dose.

“That makes a significant difference. We are not at herd immunity, indeed, the 65,395 I think is approximately just under a third of the adult population and the 26 000 additional people that will have their second vaccination soon will carry us to just over  41% when they are completed,” she said.

“We are still awaiting the mass order that we were expecting, and we are in the business now of trying to locate vaccinations as well for our children 12 to 18, recognizing that we would like, as far as possible to get that, if possible, before the September school term starts back.

The Prime Minister noted that she was sharing this information with the nation to provide certainty and allow them to be able to plan out their business as far as possible.
