Former Transport Board Chairman, Gregory Nicholls.

Nicholls clears the air on his resignation

As speculation ran rampant on social media as to the reasons behind the decision of Gregory Nicholls to step down from the post of Chairman of the Transport Board, the attorney-at-law took to his Facebook page to clear the air.

“I have resigned as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Transport Board today. I was not fired nor was I accused of any infelicities during my tenure. All of the instances of (issues) concerning Transport Board occurred before my tenure and are well documented in the provisional report of the Auditor General who has just completed a special audit of the Board. When this report is published, you will all get to see how difficult it was to turn around the Transport Board given the poor shape in which I inherited it,” the post read.

Saying he could not stop criticism nor the slander of detractors, he gave the assurance that there would be no basis for the rumours spread on social media when his 10-month tenure as Chairman was reviewed.

Nicholls noted that “all was well” and that he had no regrets, while thanking Transport Minister Dr. William Duguid for his support and Prime Minister Mia Mottley for the opportunity.

“The Transport Board is indeed a tough assignment. I’ve tried my best and I am happy with the job I’ve done. But there is always that point in life where your best will not suffice and this is certainly that time for me to move on. I am human, not superhuman and there are things in life that you cannot change. This experience has certainly reinforced that fact for me,” he stressed, before thanking family and friends for their support.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday Mottley named Member of Parliament for St Michael West Central Ian Gooding-Edghill the new chairman of the Transport Board effective immediately. It is the second time Gooding-Edghill, who is also currently the chairman of the National Insurance Board, will hold this post.
