NEW POST OFFERINGS

Prescription Delivery Service available

The Barbados Postal Service is now offering a Prescription Delivery Service.

This island-wide same-day service is allowing persons who fill their prescriptions at Massy Pharmacies and Prescription Plus to have affordable, discreet and secure delivery of their medication.

“We will do the waiting for you… We will make the delivery to you at your home, office, school, even hotel – wherever you need it delivered,” Deputy Postmaster General, International Postal Affairs & Business Development, Margaret Ashby, revealed during the launch at the General Post Office, Bridgetown.

She explained that the service can only be accessed through the pharmacy where the prescription is being filled. “The Prescription Delivery Service is aimed at assisting persons, whether a patient or the individual who is responsible for collecting the medication – making it a lot easier for them.”

As it relates to the cost of this service, Ashby stressed that it is affordable, starting at $10 per prescription.

“We understand that persons already have expenses in relation to doctor bills, etc… We wanted it to be as near as possible as the price that a person would be paying to catch the bus or taxi to go to the pharmacy and back home. Therefore, the cost of the service is an affordable $10 or $15,” it was explained.

“Also, we understand that confidentiality in relation to prescriptions must be taken into consideration. That is why each pharmacy will be supplied with security envelopes to pack the prescriptions and this will be done only by the pharmacist. The Post Office will have nothing to do with the packing of the envelopes,” she assured.

Postmaster General, Nigel Cobham, commended Massy Pharmacies and Prescription Plus for coming on board with the Post Office from the outset. He also took the opportunity to encourage other pharmacies to follow suit and in so doing, provide their customers with this relatively inexpensive option.

“The introduction of this service comes at a crucial time when health professionals struggle to meet the demands of an ageing population, added to the seemingly unending challenges spawned by an epidemic of non-communicable diseases in Barbados and the region,” Cobham stated.

“Let me assure you that the staff to which the delivery of this service is entrusted has been specially chosen, is very experienced, highly trained and has won multiple global awards over the years for meeting and surpassing the stiff delivery standards set for inbound Express Mail,” he said.
